On 24 October 2019, Youth Summit of the NAM held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The speeches were delivered by the Minister of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azad Rahimov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ramiz Hasanov, and Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Firudin Gurbanov. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramiz Hasanov mentioned that the NAM is the second largest international political organization after the UN and is an appropriate platform for political consultations and practical cooperation. In its turn, Minister of Youth and Sport Azad Rahimov emphasized that ongoing first Youth Summit of the NAM was initiated by Azerbaijan. Mr. Azad Rahimov also mentioned that four international youth organizations were founded in Baku in the last 15 years. The Deputy Minister of Education, Firudin Gurbanov, said that the NAM became a global platform of discussion of the restoration of peace and dialogue. Touching upon the education system Deputy Minister mentioned that Azerbaijan rapidly developed in this area for the last years. 2 years ago, with the initiative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, scholarship program, exclusively designed for the citizens of the Member Countries of the NAM, was launched to enable them to study in the leading universities of Azerbaijan at the preparatory courses, undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, general medicine/residency programs. Under the program, 20 scholarships are granted to citizens of the NAM member countries on an annual basis. According to the results of admission within the scholarship program in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 academic years, in total, 37 citizens from 31 countries of NAM have been granted to study at the leading public and private universities of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Global Competitiveness Index 4.0 is a statistical product of the World Economic Forum. In 2018 Azerbaijan ranked 69th out of 140th countries. However, in 2019, Azerbaijan considerably increased to 58th out of 141th ahead of countries such as Greece, South Africa, Turkey, Croatia, India, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Argentina, Ukraine, Algeria, Iran, etc. Particular attention should be paid to the indicators such as institutions, skills (education), infrastructure, where Azerbaijan ranking jumped to 49th from 58th; to 48th from 54th; to 38th from 48th, respectively. Show moreOn 17 October, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with Mongolian students Munksaikhan Munkbayar and Batsaikhan Munkhnaran, who studies at the ASOIU in the frame of scholarship program for citizens of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member countries. After welcoming the guests and expressing his pleasure of seeing them in Baku, Minister Parviz Shahbazov talked about relations between Mongolia-Azerbaijan on the energy field and about high-level meetings of officials, and projects that are planned and on the implementation stage. The students in their turns expressed their pleasant to be in Azerbaijan and Baku and shared opinions about education on a bachelor's degree in Oil and Gas Production Faculty at the ASOIU. Minister called the Mongolian students "ambassadors" and emphasize he believe that they will have a considerable contribution to political, economic, and cultural dimensions of bilateral relations. In the frame of scholarship program for citizens of the OIC and the NAM member countries, along with Mongolian students in ASOIU, there are students from Ecuador, Pakistan, Yemen, Kenya, and Mozambique. © 2019 ASOIU.
